This past September, the number of workers quitting their jobs reached record-breaking highs for the fourth month in a row. This begs the question that is on so many people’s mind: What do employees want out of their work?
It turns out, more flexibility and the ability to work remotely were at the top of many people’s wish lists.
Flexibility Is a Priority for Working Americans
From August 16 - 17, Insider ran a survey with SurveyMonkey of 1,105 adults. When asked, “which of the following would attract you most in a job offer or incentivize expanding your job search?” 33 percent of the 640 respondents said remote flexibility was their top priority. Among strictly female responders, that number jumped to 41 percent.
It’s clear that the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t just changed day-to-day life, but it’s actually changing people’s priorities at work. This shift in mindset may also explain why in July 2020, several months into the pandemic, the number of applications for starting a business reached an all-time high of 551,657 — an increase of 95 percent when compared to July 2019.
Entrepreneurship Caters to Changing Values
COVID-19 proved that you don’t need to be sitting in an office to be productive. As many jobs went remote, employees learned that the ability to create their own schedules gave them a major advantage, both in their professional and personal lives.
Entrepreneurship gives people the same freedoms, plus so much more. As a business owner, you’ll have the chance to work anywhere, at any time.
Better Work-Life Balance
Because entrepreneurs aren’t stuck to the confines of a Monday - Friday work schedule they’re able to create a plan that works best for them and their families. And while it’s true that our franchisees work incredibly hard to get their businesses up and running, they’re also able to take a step back once the business is more established — pursuing other passions or expanding their current business.
The Chance to Love Your Work
Many people are no longer content with a 9-5 job that keeps them stuck behind a desk, staring at their computer all day. Entrepreneurs are driven by their desire to not just collect a paycheck, but to work in a field they’re passionate about.
Take Ellie and Juan Lamonaca, owners of Conserva Irrigation of Fort Lauderdale, for example. When asked what his favorite aspect of the job is, Juan said, “...it’s very special when you’re in a business where you’re also doing something to create a change for our environment. Being able to do things that will help sustain our environment longer is our favorite part.”
Employees are Willing to Change Career Paths
In order to get the benefits they want most, employees are eager to pursue new career opportunities, even if it means learning a new skill or industry.
Our Quick Start Program is designed to fulfill two purposes — launch businesses quickly while giving people of all backgrounds the opportunity to pursue their dreams of owning a franchise. Dylan and Leslie Pond, owners of Conserva Irrigation of North Frisco, TX, said, “My wife and I joined Conserva Irrigation in June of 2020. Team Conserva has been a much-needed help as we have worked through the instability of starting a new venture. We are very grateful to have chosen a franchise team that knows their stuff and sincerely wants to see us succeed. They have literally “dug in” (pun intended) shovel and all, to help us crush our beginning revenue goals.”
